RECYCLING

The scraps from 3 of our factories provide recycling for our cardboard production line at Dalaman. In addition, when these scraps are not enough, scrap paper is also sourced from wastepaper collectors.

Classification of outsourced waste paper according to EN 643 norm is as follows:

1.01 Mixed Paper : Disorderly pressured papers, printing papers, coated papers, newspaper, books, magazines, used cardboards.

2.02 Retuned Newspaper : Unsold newspapers returned from newspaper vendors. They are returned in small bales.

4.01 Corrugated Board Scraps : Off cuts and scraps of corrugated box producers.

2.05 Offset printing Paper Scraps : Pressured disorderly scraps of various wood free and coated papers, exercise books.

Apart from these, out of date archives from official institutions are received and destruction document is prepared upon request.

What is meant with waste paper?

Most people are not aware or insensible about importance of waste paper in the world's economy. The cellulose to produce paper is contained in trees. Therefore, wastepaper means trees, forests, water, air and shortly: life. Therefore we must protect our forests.

Forests are the richest of renewable energy sources. The enemy of erosion and guard for the soil. Insurance for agricultural lands. They are the source to collect water and use drop by drop. Natural barrier for water loadings and head of water economics. Main oxygen source which every living being needs. Forests produce 93 billion tons of oxygen which is 66% of complete oxygen amount produced by all plants. Therefore destruction of forests may result in "ecological crisis" which is the destruction of air we breathe. Economical savings derived from forests' erosion prevention is much more than imagined. Water and energy saving as a result of forests' holding the soil which may flow though dams is 6 billion dollars. In amazons- the world's lungs- the forestry areas decrease everyday. In spite of these facts, it is surprising that we are not fully aware of importance of waste paper. It is an important mission for the authorities and civil society organizations to inform people about importance of waste paper.

Waste Paper in Turkey
Increases in paper and cardboard industry have been about 12%. The pleasing side of this increase use of most advanced technologies in the world in corrugated or tissue paper productions. Recycled paper is used in production of all paper types except newspaper, craft paper and cigarette paper. It is used in higher proportions especially in production of corrugated box and cardboards. Productions of these materials are concentrated in Marmara region and 60% of waste paper is recycled in this region. Paper consumption of countries is related with life standards. Paper consumption per person is a recognized as a measure of country's development level. Corrugated and mixed paper types have the highest recycling rate in waste paper. The wastepaper can be recycled 5 times. After the 5th recycling, the paper looses its properties and can not be recycled again due to corrosion in fibers. However this problem can be solved by balancing the virgin fiber with recycled paper.

Factors That Effect Recycle Of Paper

- Rate of virgin fiber contained in the waste paper.
- Type of paper used in production
- Technology used for removing non-fibrous contaminants
- Chemical structure of stock prepared in paper making.
- Sheet and reel cutting methods
- Transformation and printing processes
- Printing inks used
- Non fiber materials used in transformation process
- Collecting and classification methods
- Quality expectations by consumers
- Paper type to be produced

Collection of Waste Paper

We can classify waste paper collection process as collectors, small warehouses, mobile wholesalers, wholesalers, large scale wholesalers and purchasing unit of integrated paper mills.

Collectors: This group consists of individuals having collection vehicle. They mostly sell to warehouses. Most of the waste papers they collect are household wastes.

Small warehouses: They own the warehouses. They purchase waste paper from collectors and they collect themselves with their own vehicles. Some of these warehouses purchase other types waste materials as well.

Mobile wholesalers: They purchase from warehouses with their own vehicles and seldom from factories and offices.   They resell the waste paper to purchasing units of paper mills or to larger scale wholesalers.

Wholesalers: They have warehouses, collection vehicles, pressing units and other equipments. They resell the waste paper they have collected to integrated paper mills.

Large scale wholesalers: They carry all properties of wholesalers. They use high capacity machine and equipment. They source material from wholesalers, warehouses and companies.
